About Blogging

This site is an online record of our learning journey in Year 4.  Posts will appear informing you about what we do in class, celebrating work and behaviour and reviewing books and movies we have enjoyed.  Blogging is a new activity at The Vale and so you may have some questions about how this works.  Hopefully these will be answered below but if not, please don't hesitate to get in contact through the comments section.

Are the blogs safe? Who can read them?
The website for the blog is available publicly so anyone with internet access can read the blog.  Only members of Year 4 can post to the blog but anyone can comment.  All comments will be checked by one of the Year 4 teachers before they are submitted to the blog. Because the blog is public, it is important to follow some Blogging Guidelines to keep safe online.  Please read them before you start commenting on the blog.

How do I comment on a post?
To comment on a post, click on the yellow post title, then scroll down to the comment box.  You can post from your Google Account by choosing it in the drop-down menu OR you can leave a comment without logging in by choosing the 'anonymous' option.  Please leave your first name in the comment so we know who left it.

Why are there photos of children on the blog?
We feel that the photos of our learning help to enhance the blog and give you a full picture of what we are up to.  They are also fun to make and write about it.  We will make every effort to keep children's names and photos separate so they are not identifiable through the blog.  However if there is a photo or video of your child on the blog which you would like removed, don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher and it can be removed immediately.

How do I set up my own class blog?
There are so many options for blogging as a class. The best person to hear from is Ian Addison who has written a substantial guide to blogging with children.

Has blogging had any news coverage?
Yes, watch this video (on YouTube) about a Bolton school that blogs!

What do I do to submit a blog post?
Once you are signed into your Google Drive account and are signed into Blogger you can click on the orange 'New Post' button to submit a post.
Remember to:
  • add a short and snappy title.
  • be entertaining in the body (main text) of your post.
  • include your class and any other labels before submitting.
  • read through your post and check for spelling and punctuation mistakes
  • click the orange "publish" button to submit your post.
