Royal Opera House - Ballet Trip

On Friday 6th May 90 children (from years 3 to year 7) visited the Royal opera House to see an afternoon of ballet performances. Here are a few photographs from the day taken by Mrs Casey.

As we drove into London our coach driver pointed out some important buildings and tourist attractions: Battersea Dogs Home, Battersea Power Station, The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the London Eye.
When we arrived at the Royal Opera House it was nearly time for lunch. We explored the fantastic building and then ate on the balcony, looking over the rooftops of Covent Garden.
We had some time before our ballet performances, so we went in our groups to explore Covent Garden.
It was very busy out there. We all resisted the urge to visit the Build-A-Bear-Workshop and the Disney store; we watched the street entertainers instead!

It was soon time to take our seats for the ballet. The auditorium was amazingly beautiful. We had two blocks of seats. Some of us were sitting very high up and other were sitting very close to the stage. Can you see Mrs Smith waving at us?

We saw 3 short ballets.Firstly, we saw 'The Dream,' which was a classical ballet based on the story of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The costumes shimmered and the dancing was superb. When it had finished the dancers came on stage several times to hear their applause.
We had a short interval, so decided it was time to take an ice cream break!

The second ballet was called 'Connectome,' which was a modern dance piece. It had a stark and dramatic set which included laser light projections and glass cylinders that hung from the ceiling. The dancers were very strong and muscular in this one.
Finally, we saw a short ballet called 'The Concert.' It was very funny and a wonderful way to finish the afternoon off. We all had one final walk around this beautiful and historic building before we left for home. I hope you have enjoyed seeing our photographs. 4TC
