Trip to the Aegon International Tennis Tournament

The Aegon Tennis Tournament is held every year at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne. On Monday 16th June, 30 children (from years 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) went along to see the first day of play.

As we arrived at the courts we were met by LTA tennis coaches who gave us our wrist bands, which allowed us to explore all of the club and watch the professional players warming up!
We saw the number one seed, Radwanska, ‘knocking up’ with her coach and we explored the grounds. One of our favourite activities of the day was asking famous players for their autographs.
Some of us were a little shy to start with, whilst others were more than happy to ask for autographs and selfies!
During our session in the ‘Play Tennis Zone,’ we all got to play tennis and lots of other fun activities.

The most popular one was the ‘serve speed monitor.’ Our fastest server from year 7, managed a serve of over 60 m.p.h.

We had lunch on the grass under the scoreboard, while we waited for the match between Radwanska (POL) and Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) to start on centre court.
We walked past number one court, as we waited for access to the centre court, and took another photo opportunity on the stairs!

The game was very close between the number 1 and 26 seed. Watching top class tennis in the Eastbourne sunshine was a highlight of the day.

We just had time to collect a few more autographs before the end of the day. It was a team effort to cover the ‘Vale’ ball in signatures which included : Radwanska, Chardy, Bennetau, Errani, Nieminen and Gasquet.

Keep your eye out for it at the Summer Fair, where you might be lucky enough to win it in the raffle.
Thank you to all the children and adults helpers who made it such an enjoyable day.
