Below are a few more pieces of Multi-Sensory Locational Writing about arriving in Cairo in 1922. Please leave the children a comment (with their name) to let them know what you thought of their fantastic work.

As I strolled through the dusty alleyway, I recognised the scent of food, camels and horse's hair. Fiercely, the noisy crowd of busy, joyful people were rushing to shops, pushing past me quickly. Happily, lots of people were strolling down through the crowded alleyway to the shops. The noisy children were talking loudly as they passed the busy shops. Noisily the drums banged, making amazing music ring out as I strolled through Cairo. All the people could smell the horses and see the beautiful buildings.

Horribly, the strong pong of old, rotten fish filled the air while the people were talking. Poor people were walking around the dusty, old houses and broken, slow cars were driving. The noisy drums were banging while people danced in the street. Slowly, the invisible air passed the worn, poor people and I could feel it too. I felt sad for the people people - they should have a better life. Calmly, the old, fragile people walked sadly but others were much happier. Rich people walked sensibly while some children skipped along. Quickly, horses led dusty, old cards while other citizens held onto the reins.

When I went to Cairo, what I expected to see was sand, bones and wooden shelters. Instead there were crowded buildings and filthy cars honking their horns. Not what I had expected in the heart of Egypt but I tried to make the most of it. I could hear musical beams of drums, clanging like a rhinoceros fight. I could feel the gentle rays of sunshine tickling my hand. Ahead, animals were playing together like they were long-lost cousins. I saw a beautiful fountain drizzling crystal clear water down a statue before splashing in a pool of water. I felt a connection with it. Cairo wasn't so bad after all. Once I'd been there a while, I saw it was great.

Excitedly, I jumped onto a lumpy, lazy camel and rode noisily into busy, dusty Cairo. I saw animal skin and cow leather hung up on the sandstone shops. I heard pretty music and noisy, busy men and women walking along the dry, hot streets. I could smell horrible dust from some of the old shops and I could also smell baked foot from along the busy, noisy alleyways. Up above me I saw lovely, little birds flying below the scorching, burning sun while busy people wandered along the streets. I saw horses galloping through the city like people on a roller-coaster. As the day went on, I became hotter and hotter, walking along the busy streets of Cairo. The roads were packed with the hustle and bustle of people charging everywhere.

As I looked around the beautiful city, I saw an old, ancient building on the side. Excitedly, I traveled through the busy, bustling bazaar of the market. I heard men shouting and arguing with some ladies. I could hear the lovely sound of the drums - I had to dance. Slowly, I carried on, smelling lots of bread and rice and many more foods. I could feel all the amazing, beautiful animals and the sand against my feet. The aroma of the spicy food fled up my nose along with the stench of rotten fish. The sizzle of food made me hungry but I could smell the dung from the animals. I was feeling so happy and grateful because I got the chance to go to Egypt.

As I started to stride, I sensed sizzling smoke in the distance. Slowly, I ventured on but as I was strolling, thousands of people were shouting their amazing prices at me. I didn't buy anything. I decided to pick up my pace. I started to sweat. Unexpectedly, the smell of yummy food drifted up my nose and I began to feel hungry. The sound of the fountain made me thirsty.
BANG! I thought for a moment what it could be. BANG! A little louder now. BAND! I realised what it was...it was drums. As I carried on walking, I felt my face start to burn. Quickly, I strolled into shade before scratching my elbow on a crooked stone wall. I looked - all around I saw smiles everywhere. It made me feel calm inside. Relieved, I eventually got to sit down at the end of my interesting day walking in Cairo.

Excitedly, I jumped onto a lumpy, lazy camel and rode noisily into the busy, old, dusty city of Cairo. I spotted animal skins and thick, smooth cow leather hung up on rough, sandstone shops. I heard pretty music and people marching around the street with big brass drums. Unexpectedly, microscopic sand rustled up my arm and I hesitated to think what would happen if a horrendous sandstorm struck. The villagers barged past me carelessly and the stench of camel poo filled the air. I could also smell the odour of people smoking happily on their pipes. I felt a buzz of excitement run through my veins. All around me, citizens were trading and discussing their business. I could only just peer out of the tall, grand church windows to see a huge, empty hall packed with villagers and an opera company singing swiftly to them. I stared up out the windows, daydreaming. The sun seemed to glisten off the windows of other buildings. As the people rushed around, a dark grey cloud came into view. It was not yet pitch black but it would be in a quarter of an hour.

As I strolled up the lonely street, I could feel the blazing hot heat brush against my arm. When I reached the top, I took a whiff - there was smoke, rotten fish and a smelly horse. Swiftly, the happy people of Cairo cheered me up as they walked past me. Rapidly, the drums were played as the horses were neighing. Sadly, the day was nearly over but the sun was slowly starting to set.

As you rambled through the old, dusty alleyway, you could smell the scent of dirty smoke from cigars. In the distance, there was a swarm of people by an old, wooden ride. When you stumbled through the cramped village, you could feel the people rushing by in a hurry. I was amazed by how they could bare the pong of the tall, stinky camels. You could feel the thick, black leather from their old, dusty robes as the citizens rushed past. You could just see dark, grey clouds however it was not pitch black. As I dawdled along, I felt a buzz of excitement. Unexpectedly, it started to rain but then it stopped. I was amazed because the people playing the music were still playing.

As I started to stride I sensed sizzling smoke in the distance. With a beat, I felt delighted and a little bit fearful. Slowly, a lumpy, creamy, calm camel traveled past me. The blue, bright water fountain tickled with a splash up my smooth arm. With a long way to go, I decided to pick up my pace. A drift of food went up my nose. I noticed on the tall, old buildings there were arched doors and windows. You could just see dark clouds take over the bright, shiny sun. In the distance, the high mountain was in front of the pretty sunset. I couldn't stop staring. In front of me, the wind blew the horse's black, dirty tail up and it tickled my nose.
